What You Need to Know About Carnets for Mexico

Special Considerations for Carnets Going to Mexico

    • 6-Month Maximum: Mexican Customs allows ATA Carnets and their goods to remain in Mexico for up to 6 months. Mexico does NOT allow extensions past the initial 6-month importation period.
    • Pre-Registration Required: Carnets entering Mexico must be registered before arrival. EasyCarnet handles this registration for you.
    • All Ports Validate: All customs ports in Mexico now validate ATA Carnets in and out of Mexico.
    • Track Your Date: Note and track the "Final Date of Re-Exportation" on the white importation counterfoil — this is the final day the goods may be in Mexico, regardless of whether Mexican Customs completes this field.
    • Spanish Translation: The General List is no longer required to be translated into Spanish, but it can be helpful.

    • đź’ˇSpanish translations are optional but can speed up processing
    • đź’ˇFor film productions, work with a Mexican customs broker for complex shoots
